Prerequisite:

age requirement for the qualification is 18 years or older at the time of registration

must possess academic credentials at Level 3 (equivalent or higher)

must possess the Safety Training Awards or the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) (STA) Level 2 Certificate in Swimming/Aquatics Instruction

For the modules to be completed, a learn-to-swim programme leader must be present or have previously led one.

To function on this programme, learners must have literacy and numeracy skills at least at Level 2.

References from the employer (or an equivalent) are favourable and show that the quality of the teaching is acknowledged.

The student must exhibit the intellectual capacity to learn and the competence to compile a portfolio of proof.
